Let me prefece this by saying I was not there so I don't know. After watching Woodstock the Movie for umbteenth time I started to wonder about a certain guitar and what the f happened to it.Now I'll set the scene,The Who are finishing thier amazing set and truely a highlight of the weekend it was.Pete Townsend goes for some feedback takes off his Gibson SG and pounds it into the stage and again he pounds and then appears to toss the guitar into the crowd. This was a fantastic finish but the skeptic in me says the guitar wound up in the photo pit and not in the audience and therefor returned to him since it wasn't broken.I certainly could be wrong and I hope Iam but if it's true who walked out w/ this guitar and why didn't it go to auction or get Pete somehow to sign the thing. If anyone knows for sure this would be a cool mystery solved. If they brought it to Antiques Roadshow what would this ax bring if all was verified through serial #s.Yes I do think of wacky stuff like this.

It seems Cliff is correct about the guitar.

"At the end of their set, Pete Townshend tossed his banged-up Gibson SG guitar into the crowd, but according to The Kids Are Alright DVD liner notes the guitar was promptly retrieved by one of the band's roadies. Close inspection of film from both the Woodstock movie and the bonus DVD from the 40th anniversary issue confirms this."

I watched the movie many times and saw no one retreve anything. It goes to show the skeptic in me was right after all and this now seems all planned and not as spontaneous as it appeared.Again thanks this was one things that I noticed and always wondered about over the years. As a footnote if that guitar was that close to me or I was fortunate to catch it he Never would get it back.Ever.the fucking nerve of him to tease the crowd like that.

this is the same dvd /movie where you see John in his mansion with all the walls holding all the basses he's collected over the years.
I think I saw the movie in S.F as a double feature and the main movie was Stanley Kubricks' 2001 a space oddessy.HAL the computer was a main character in this as was a bunch of primates jumping all over so giant monoliths.

The guitar Pete tossed into the crowd at Woodstock was retrieved by a member of the Who's road crew.

And you are still a complete douchebag, by the way...

"I hope a hunchback t-bones that skiff of yours "

heh, heh, heh. My first thought was Quasimodo breaststrokin' furiously on an intercept—his hump breakin' the surface and sending out a perfect V wake.

I think I'll call it a night on that one.
